Applied Science (Medical Profile) BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma

Course type: BTEC/UAL Level 3 Diplomas • Awarding/exam body: Edexcel
Equivalent to 3 A levels.

The course is designed to provide experience of activities carried out by scientists. It allows students to apply and build on their existing science knowledge, skills and understanding in an industry-related context. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be qualified to seek employment or undertake further study, such as HND/degree courses in an applied science-related subject.

Course Assessment

Assessment is carried out through a wide variety of internally set and marked assignments. These will include traditional written and word processed assignments, research tasks, practical investigations, presentations, field trips, industry visits, work placements and a very enjoyable residential trip to Brecon Beacons.

This Course Can Lead To…

This qualification will enable you to progress to a wide range of University Degree Courses, including: biomedical sciences, biochemistry, pharmacology, radiology, dental technology, physiotherapy, midwifery, nursing etc. Alternatively, this qualification can lead to direct employment in a science-related area, such as laboratory work.

PLEASE NOTE: that if you wish to become a doctor, veterinary surgeon or dentist you will be required to complete an additional access/ foundation course organised by the accepting medical school.

Entry Requirements

Grade 4 in Core Science, Grade 4 in Additional Science and Grade 4 in Maths
OR
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Science with Merit and Grade 4 in Maths
